Electrical Trades Union

The Electrical Trades Union is an Australian trade union representing workers in the electrical, electronics, communications, and related industries. The union's membership includes electricians, electrical fitters, communications technicians, and other tradespeople employed across construction, manufacturing, mining, energy generation, and infrastructure sectors. The Electrical Trades Union operates through state-based branches and is affiliated with the Australian Council of Trade Unions, the national peak body for organised labour. The union's mandate covers negotiating enterprise agreements, enforcing safety standards, advocating for apprenticeship training, and representing members in workplace disputes. In the resources and energy sectors, the Electrical Trades Union is active on major projects including LNG facilities, power stations, and offshore oil and gas installations, often working alongside other unions in coordinated industrial campaigns. The union has a history of involvement in disputes over pay, conditions, and the use of contract labour on large-scale construction and operational sites. It also campaigns on broader industry issues such as renewable energy transition, skills development, and job security. The Electrical Trades Union was established in the early twentieth century and has been a significant force in shaping industrial relations and safety standards in Australia's electrical and energy industries.
