Project Description
The project will involve the demolition of the existing distribution centre and the development of a new multiuser facility. The facility will support customers in the consumer goods sector, including fast-moving consumer goods, allowing for local and cross border order fulfilment while providing operational flexibility and long term scalability.
The investment forms part of the private-sector pledges at the 2026 South Africa Investment Conference (SAIC) held in March 2026. The SAIC is a flagship platform led by President Cyril Ramaphosa and the Presidency to mobilise domestic and foreign investment, drive job creation and strengthen investor confidence.
The distribution centre will be developed as a carbon neutral site and will be H Advanced certified, aligning with DHL Group’s sustainability ambitions. It will also incorporate modern materials handling solutions, including electrical tow motors and equipment, to support more efficient and future ready operations.
Potential Job Creation
The project is expected create about 70 jobs during the construction phase and an estimated 90 permanent jobs once the facility is operational.
Capital Expenditure
R220-million.
Planned Start/End Date
The project was announced in April 2026. Construction is scheduled to start in July 2026, with the facility expected to become operational in July 2027.
