Botswana Minerals has used an AI-driven review of legacy geological records to identify primary copper sulphide and altered copper minerals, including malachite and chrysocolla, in historical drill cores originally sunk in search of uranium and diamonds. The analysis, covering more than a gigabyte of reports spanning over 50 years, points to a concealed mineralised corridor beneath shallow Kalahari cover, confirming AI-generated target corridors for copper, zinc, lead and nickel. Chairperson John Teeling calls it "a material step forward", with fully funded fieldwork planned in the northern licences to re-log and re-scan core and rank priority targets.
Earlier AI study flagged 36 copper anomalies across northern licencesA prior AI-assisted study across two of the company's eight northern Botswana licences had identified 36 copper anomalies within six exploration corridors, in an underexplored belt linking Namibia's Damara Belt with the Central African Copperbelt. MD James Campbell says AI helps interrogate large heterogenous databases, though human judgement remains essential.
Board strengthened, £1.15-million raised for explorationBotswana Minerals appointed David Cockbill, a corporate financier and public capital markets executive, as nonexecutive director, and raised £1.15-million through a placing and subscription to fund its copper-focused exploration programme in north-west Botswana.
