Bogolo Joy Kenewendo

Bogolo Joy Kenewendo is a Botswana economist and former government minister who has become a prominent voice on African trade, critical minerals and diamond-sector policy. She served as Botswana's Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, becoming one of the youngest cabinet ministers in the country's history, before moving into international advisory roles. Her work has focused on positioning Botswana, a leading diamond producer, within global value chains for precious stones and critical minerals. She has been associated with initiatives linking Botswana to markets such as Dubai and the United Arab Emirates, including engagement with bodies overseeing diamond trading, mercantile exchanges and mineral beneficiation strategy. Kenewendo advocates for greater local value addition in Botswana's resource sectors rather than reliance on raw exports. She frequently appears in coverage on diamond market reform, trade finance and the diversification of Botswana's economy beyond diamonds. Her profile has grown through participation in United Nations and other multilateral economic forums addressing trade and development in Africa. She is regularly cited as an authority on Botswana's economic transition strategy and its efforts to modernise mineral trading infrastructure, including exploration of tokenisation and new exchange platforms for diamonds and other commodities.
