Al Cook

Al Cook is a mining executive who served as CEO of De Beers, the diamond mining and trading company. He is British and held the top position at De Beers during a period of significant transformation in the global diamond industry. Cook joined De Beers from within the Anglo American group, which owns De Beers, and brought extensive experience in natural resources and commodities. His tenure as chief executive saw the company navigate changing market dynamics, including shifts in consumer demand and the rise of synthetic diamonds. He oversaw operations across De Beers' key producing countries, including Botswana, Namibia, South Africa, Canada and Lesotho, as well as the company's marketing and sales activities. Cook was responsible for strategic decisions affecting the company's production, pricing and distribution channels, including its relationship with major markets such as China. He reported to the De Beers board and worked closely with Anglo American's leadership. Before becoming CEO, Cook held senior roles within the Anglo American group, gaining experience across mining operations and corporate strategy. His leadership at De Beers positioned him as a prominent figure in the diamond sector and the broader mining industry.
