Project Description
The project entails the construction of a 1 260 MW greenfield natural-gas-fired gas turbine combined-cycle power plant on a build, own and operate basis; the construction of a 400/132/11 kV substation; and the construction of a 40 km 400 kV overhead transmission line, connecting the power plant to the substation, which will be located near Zakho City, in the Semel district of the Dohuk Governorate of the Kurdistan Autonomous Region, in Iraq.

The project will be built in three phases.

Phase 1A will involve the installation of a 560 MW open-cycle phase gas-fired gas turbine, including the associated substation and overhead transmission line. The substation and the transmission line will be transferred to the Kurdish regional government once built.

Phase 1B will involve the installation of a 280 MW open-cycle gas-fired gas turbine and related facilities either parallel to or sequentially with Phase 1A, subject to final lender appetite.

Phase 2 will involve the conversion of the open-cycle gas turbines into a combined-cycle gas-fired gas turbine plant, with three heat-recovery steam generators, a 420 MW steam turbine and related facilities to complete the power plant as a 1 260 MW combined-cycle gas-turbine plant.
