Copper mining company Capstone said on Tuesday that a worker had been shot dead outside its Cozamin mine, in Mexico.

The employee was shot on the main access road between the city of Zacetas and the mine.

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our team members. Our thoughts go out to his family and our entire Cozamin team,” said CEO John MacKenzie “Our foremost priority is the safety and security of our personnel, and we are committed to supporting the family of the deceased.”

Capstone is working with government authorities to ensure safe transportation to, and from, the mine site.

The company maintains the necessary personnel at the mine for the site’s security and safe operations.
