PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Junior tungsten producer Wolf Minerals has completed the commissioning of its Drakelands processing plant, at the Hemerdon tungsten and tin project, in the UK.

The entire processing plant has now run successfully, satisfying the requirements for handover to Wolf, with the company now taking full operational control of the project from contractor GR Engineering Services.

“The conclusion of commissioning activities represents another major milestone in the development of the project,” said Wolf MD Russell Clark.

The Drakelands mine was officially opened earlier this month and, at full capacity, was expected to be one of the largest tungsten concentrate producers in the western world.

The plant had a three-million-tonne-a-year capacity and the project was expected to produce about 3 500 t/y of tungsten concentrate and 450 t/y of tin concentrate.

The first tungsten concentrate shipment has been dispatched from the Drakelands mine for delivery to a long-term customer, marking Wolf’s first generation of revenue and operating cash flow.

“With the inaugural shipment, Wolf has now realised its ambition of becoming a tungsten producer and we expect to supply high-quality concentrate to our customers for many years into the future,” Clark said.
