Wind Prospect has accelerated its plans for growth in 2014 by appointing a new General Manager to head up its Cape Town business.

Oscar van Rooy, who joined Wind Prospect in August, has now been promoted to the role of General Manager ahead of schedule, allowing the internationally experienced engineer and MBA graduate to start laying the foundations for 2014 with immediate effect.

With a career spanning 18 years in the implementation, management and operation of power plants, Oscar has worked on projects worldwide, including Scotland, Papua New Guinea, Kenya and Austria. He has now travelled full circle, returning to his home city of Cape Town.

Oscar’s immediate plans for the business are to concentrate on existing due diligence and construction clients within South Africa, whilst ultimately growing the business to other African countries such as Kenya and Namibia.

Commenting on his promotion, Oscar said:

“The South African renewables industry has changed beyond all recognition since I last worked here in 2003. The place is buzzing, and delivery of components via the South African harbours and roads is now a common sight, which is great to see.

“Wind Prospect has a tremendous track record, working as Owners Engineer on leading edge projects -such as Dassieklip and Dorper and has delivered  10.5GW of due diligence work in just 3 years. The aim now is to take this up a gear, ensuring Wind Prospect remains the first choice for wind resource, due diligence and owner’s engineer work in Africa.”

Achim Hoehne, Director of Wind Prospect Africa added:

“Oscar is a significant appointment for Wind Prospect and his promotion is a reflection of how quickly he has got to grips with the business. We are pleased to have such an experienced energy professional leading the Cape Town team.”
