Project Description
The project entails the development of a 50 MW wind power generation plant on a 6.28 km2 site in the Gharo-Jhimpir wind corridor, in the Thatta district of Sindh province, Pakistan.

The wind farm will comprise 20 wind turbine generators, each with a capacity of 2.5 MW.

It will include the engineering, design, procurement, construction, turbine erection, grid tie-in, commissioning, operation and maintenance of the wind power generation plant.

Metro will also build 18 km of internal access roads to service the wind turbine generators and a 12 km to 13 km access road from the existing public road.

The plant will sell electricity to the National Transmission & Despatch Company under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Value
The project is estimated at $131.5-million.

Duration
Construction is expected to start in the last quarter of this year and be completed in 18 months.

Latest Developments
The International Finance Corporation is considering providing a loan of up to $22.5-million and an equity investment of up to $3.25-million, and mobilising up to $22.5-million in debt from Eco Trade & Development Bank.

The balance of the debt will be arranged by a consortium of local Pakistani banks.
