PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Coal miner Whitehaven Coal on Wednesday announced that longwall production at its Narrabri mine, in New South Wales, had resumed normal production levels.

The company stopped production at the longwall in March, after the configuration of the installation of longwall panel three differed to that of the previous two longwall panels, resulting in a difference of floor levels of the longwall face-line and tailgate development roadway.

Whitehaven said on Wednesday that the horizon control issues had now been rectified.

“It is very pleasing to report that the recovery plan adopted to re-establish production at Narrabri has been successfully executed by the team. This is a great result for Whitehaven,” said MD and CEO Paul Flynn.

He noted that the operation was expected to reach a full-year run-of-mine production of between 5-million and 5.2-million tonnes, up from the previously downgraded estimate of between 4.8-million and 5-million tonnes.

For the full year, Whitehaven’s saleable coal production was expected to be in the range of between 10-million and 10.2-million tonnes, up from the previous estimate of between 9.8-million and 10-million tonnes.
