Name and Location
West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD), Hong Kong, China.

Client
West Kowloon Cultural District Authority.

Project Description
One of the largest cultural projects in the world, the WKCD, will stretch across 40 ha of land overlooking the Victoria harbour.

The development plan for the WKCD envisages a world-class integrated low-density district, comprising local and traditional, as well as international and modern, elements.

Arts and cultural learning will be at the heart of this urban fabric, but it will also be a space that caters to all other aspects of daily life – living, working, dining and shopping.

A range of indoor and outdoor arts and cultural venues will be built, with all their visual arts, performances and educational offerings easily mutually accessible along a main vehicle-free artery.

The 23 ha of open space will provide a tranquil environment in which all forms of leisure activities can take place.

The park will incorporate an open-air performance space and also display works of art.

The avenue will be one of the main open-space features and will run the entire length of the district, providing easy access to and from the site.

There will be an emphasis on environmentally friendly features, with the aim of the district being to have a minimal carbon footprint that will contribute to the development of a green and sustainable district.

Traffic, services and parking will be located below ground level, maximising safety and comfort while minimising pollution and congestion.
