Client
GDF SUEZ holds a 43% equity interest in the project, while Investec owns a 34.5% and Kagiso Tiso Holdings 20%. The remaining 2.5% will be allocated to a community trust.
Project Description
The wind energy facility will be located near Vredenburg and will have a contracted capacity of 90.1 MW and a nameplate capacity of 94 km.
Other infrastructure will include foundations to support the turbine towers, underground cables between turbines, a substation for the evacuation of power, overhead transmission lines linking to the distribution grid, access roads and a maintenance or control building.
West Coast One was awarded preferred bidder status in the second window of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme in May 2012. The project signed a 20-year power purchase agreement with Eskom and an implementation agreement with the Department of Energy in May 2013.
Value
The total investment cost is €160-million, funded by a mix of equity and debt provided by local banks.
Duration
The wind farm is expected to reach commercial operation in mid 2015.
