West Barracouta gas project.

Location
The project is located of the shore of Victoria, in Australia.

Client
Gippsland Basin Joint Venture (JV), a 50:50 partnership between BHP and Esso Australia a subsidiary of ExxonMobil.

Project Description
The project involves the development of the western dome of the West Barracouta gasfield in Bass Strait – the first offshore field ever discovered in Australia.

The project will include the development of one of the largest remaining sweet gas reservoirs in Bass Strait, through a two-well brownfield tieback into existing Gippsland Basin JV infrastructure.

The project is estimated at A$400-million, with BHP’s share of investment estimated at A$200-million.

Duration
The project is expected to achieve first gas from 2021.

Latest Developments
The JV partners decided to proceed with the project at the end of December 2018.

ExxonMobil recently completed front-end engineering design work for the project and awarded contracts to Subsea 7 and OneSubsea.
