Location
The project is located about 18 km west of Cochrane, in Rocky View County, in Alberta, Canada, on about 4 ha of TransAlta-owned lands that are part of the company’s Ghost hydroelectric facility.

Project Description
TransAlta aims to develop the project to provide reliable electricity service for the Alberta electrical grid and support the development of additional renewable energy for Albertans.
The battery facility is designed to be charged by electricity produced at the existing Ghost hydroelectric facility when demand is lower, and discharged to support the stability of the electric grid during times of higher demand.
It will generate up to a maximum of 180 MW, with up to two hours of battery discharge duration.
TransAlta is planning for a two-phase approach to construction. Phase 1 will be built, energised and tested by the end of 2023 before the construction of Phase 2.
