Name of the Project
Waste-to-energy project.

Location
The facility will be located in the Drakenstein municipality, near Wellington, in the Western Cape, South Africa.

Client
MBHE African Power.

Project Description
The project entails the development of South Africa’s first waste-to-energy plant.

The plant will contribute 10 MW to the country’s power grid – enough to power more than 10 000 South Africa homes.

The facility will use wet organic fraction to produce biogas and the dry fraction of locally available municipal waste to provide clean-burning natural gas energy for the Drakenstein municipality.

In addition to providing a renewable-energy resource, the project will address limited landfill availability by diverting up to 500 t of municipal waste a day from the landfill to the waste-to-energy plant, reducing the waste volume by 90%.
