Name and Location

Client
Namibian Ports Authority (Namport).

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a new container terminal at the Port of Walvis Bay. The project will triple Namport container handling capacity from 350 000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) to 1.05-million TEUs a year.

The scope of work for construction will include:
• the deepening of the approach channel;
• dredging the basin between the proposed new container terminal and the existing berths;
• dredging at the quay wall of the new container terminal;
• the reclamation of the new container yard; and
• the construction of quay walls, rock revetments, container terminal surfacing, operations buildings and workshops.

The intention is to obtain material for reclamation from the dredging of the basins in front of the new berths and from extending, widening and deepening the entrance channel.
