Wagtail and Rowdies gold project, Australia
Name and Location
Wagtail and Rowdies gold project, Australia.
Client
Pantoro (formerly Pacific Niugini).
Project Description
An evaluation of the Wagtail and Rowdies prospects, which are located only 1.5 km south of the Nicolsons processing plant, has culminated in an initial ore reserve of 96 500 t grading at 5.55 g/t of gold, contained in three small high-grade openpits. The mining of these pits will avail more feed to the Nicolsons process plant as the underground mine continues to build to full capacity.
Processing plant reviews have indicated that the crushing and grinding circuits have existing capacity to process a throughput of 200 000 t/y, which would be an increase of 50%, compared with the current operating level. The metallurgical engineering reviews suggest that two additional leach tanks and some minor modification to the classification circuit are required to achieve high gold recoveries at the expanded rate. It is expected that adequate underground development will be in place to sustain the increased throughput once openpit mining is completed.
The openpit could deliver an additional 16 350 oz to the Nicolsons gold project production profile over nine months.
The Nicolsons operation poured its first gold in September last year, after operations were started in April.
