Project Description
The project involves the construction and operation of a 24 MW wind farm on a plot of commercial farmland, 5 km west of Grahamstown, in the Makana local municipality, in the Eastern Cape.
The wind farm will comprise eight wind turbines. The power produced will be fed to Makana’s municipal Waainek substation using 33 kV cables and sold to Eskom under a 20-year power purchase agreement.

Latest Developments
Wind energy producer Innowind has tasked Germany-based Vestas to supply, install and commission eight turbines at the Waainek wind power project.
The turbine delivery for the wind project is planned to start mid-2014, followed by commissioning in the third quarter of the year.
The contract also includes the installation of VestasOnline Business's Scada solution, the full scope of civil and electrical works and a ten-year full-scope service agreement.
