Venturex ticks Pilbara boxes
PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The Western Australian Department of Mines and Petroleum has approved junior Venturex Resources’ plans to develop the Pilbara copper/zinc project, at the Sulphur Springs site.
The mining proposal approval, the clearing permit approval, which the federal government granted, and the existing mining agreement with the traditional owners, were the key approvals required for the development of the project.
“The successful securing of these key approvals for the Sulphur Springs site is a significant milestone for both the development of the project and the future of the company,” said Venturex MD Michael Mulroney.
“We have long identified permitting as one of the key determinants to the successful and timely development of the project, which is why the company has, and will continue to, invest considerable time and resources into our relationships with all stakeholders involved in the project.”
Mulroney said that Venturex’s focus now was on advancing the project’s development options as part of its drive to commercialise its copper/zinc assets in the Pilbara through 2014.
A 2012 feasibility study found that the Pilbara project could support a one-million-tonne-a-year processing facility at Sulphur Springs, with production forecast at around 16 400 t/y of copper and 34 000 t/y of zinc, along with 200 000 oz/y of silver. The mine life was expected to be around eight-and-a-half years.
