Name and Location
Valdora solar project, Queensland, Australia.

Client
Sunshine Coast Regional Council.

Project Description
The Valdora solar project can potentially become the largest solar plant in Queensland and possibly in Australia.

The 10 MW solar farm will produce 16 600 MWh/y of electricity, which is equivalent to powering 3 000 homes, and it will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 20 000 t/y.

This will require between 35 000 and 40 000 solar panels across 30 ha, mounted either on fixed framing or single axis tracking systems.

The direct current power created will be converted to 240 V alternating current through 20 inverters. The low-voltage power will be further converted to high-voltage electricity using step-up transformers before being fed into the local electricity network for consumption in the Coolum area, in the Sunshine Coast.

Value
The project is expected to cost between A$24-million and A$30-million.

Duration
Construction is expected to start in 2014.

Latest Developments
The Sunshine Coast Regional Council has called for expressions of interest to confirm cost and benefit estimates.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
None stated.

On Budget and on Time?
Not stated.
