Updated MRE positions Canadian miner's Tetepisca graphite project among world's best
Canadian high-grade flake graphite developer Focus Graphite has published an upgraded mineral resource estimate (MRE) for the Lac Tétépisca project, in Québec, which places it among the largest identified graphite deposits globally.
The new MRE includes 120-million tonnes of indicated resources grading 10.27% graphitic carbon and 24-million tonnes of inferred resources grading 9.88% graphitic carbon, containing an estimated 14.7-million tonnes of in-situ graphite.
Notably, the MRE was calculated based on a conservative 3.5% cut-off grade and $1 200/t average selling price for flake concentrate.
Focus says the Lac Tétépisca project still has significant expansion potential through step-out and infill drilling, which can extend the deposit to the south-west and at depth.
The MRE update was compiled by a Canadian geological consultancy called IOS Geosciences using results from 150 drill holes totalling 26 095 m and including 2022 campaign results recently reported.
"This updated MRE represents a major milestone for Focus and further validates Lac Tétépisca as one of the largest identified graphite deposits globally. With about 14.7-million tonnes of contained graphite, the project combines exceptional scale with a high-grade resource profile and remains open for expansion both along strike and at depth," emphasises Focus CEO Dean Hanisch.
He says with this important resource update now complete, the company's focus will shift towards advancing metallurgical optimisation, process flowsheet development and engineering studies designed to further unlock and quantify the value of the project.
"We believe these initiatives will help position Lac Tétépisca for advancement toward a preliminary economic assessment over the coming year and further demonstrate its potential to become a strategically important source of graphite supply for North America and its allies," Hanisch concludes.
