Company Announcement - Unitrans, the supply chain solutions company, has an impeccable reputation for efficiency and service excellence across many different industry sectors. It has just signed a significant new contract in the local automotive sector, with global automotive supplier business REHAU. REHAU is a renowned global systems and services provider of polymer-based solutions in the construction, automotive and industrial services sectors. By combining strong development capabilities with decentralised sales and service excellence, it has become one of the top providers in the market. The highest levels of professionalism, from material development through manufacturing, together with a passion for the unlimited potential of polymers are the foundation of its worldwide success as a premium brand.

Founded in Bavaria with four employees in 1948, REHAU now has 19 000 employees in more than 170 locations around the world.
After a period of negotiation, a contract was successfully agreed upon, and the supply chain management business started work in December 2014. Unitrans is tasked with transport of motor vehicle bumpers from REHAU in Uitenhage to its plant in East London, via a dedicated on site fleet of rigid draw bar truck trailer combinations. In its East London facility REHAU adds final detail to the bumpers, which then go into stock ready to be delivered to the Mercedes Benz assembly plant in East London. The bumpers are transported in steel stillages, which, when emptied, are brought back by the fleet to Uitenhage, along with raw materials. This ensures the optimised use of cargo space and truck scheduling on the contract.  Vehicles run on a tightly controlled schedule out of Uitenhage, 24 hours a day, six days a week.

‘We are very proud to have signed a contract with a major international automotive supplier like REHAU. It’s an indication of the trust and esteem we hold in the local market, and the competitive and efficient supply chain services we can offer clients in this sector,’ concludes, Ray Singh, managing director of Unitrans Customer Solution Development.
