Name of the Project
Uaroo Renewable Energy Hub.

Location
On the Uaroo and Emu Creek Pastoral Stations, located 120 km south of Onslow, in the Pilbara region of Western Australia.

Project Owner/s
Pilbara Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Fortescue Metals Group (FMG).

Fortescue Future Industries, a wholly owned subsidiary of FMG, as a key enabler of FMG’s decarbonisation goals, is managing the development and implementation of renewable-energy and green fuel projects, including the proposed Uaroo Renewable Energy Hub.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of a renewable-energy generation hub to power FMG’s mining operations in the Pilbara.

The proposal will generate up to 5.4 GW of electricity from up to 340 wind turbine generators (2 040 MW) and a solar farm (3 333 MW).

The project includes a battery energy storage system with a design capacity of 9 100 MW/h, substations, associated supporting infrastructure, tracks and roads, and corridors for electrical cabling.

The proposal includes a disturbance footprint of up to 10 158 ha within a development envelope of 61 525 ha.

During construction, the proposal will require abstraction of up to 6.5 Gℓ at 1 Gℓ/y of groundwater. During operation, groundwater abstraction would be up to 0.2 Gℓ/y.
