Location
Eastern limb of the Bushveld Complex, about 35 km south-west of Burgersfort, in Mpumalanga, South Africa.
Project Owner/s
Two Rivers is a joint venture between diversified miner African Rainbow Minerals (51%) and platinum group metals producer Impala Platinum (49%).
Project Description
The project will add 40 000 t a month of milling capacity at the Two Rivers operation.
At steady state, the project is expected to produce 360 000 oz/y of platinum, palladium, ruthenium, rhodium, iridium and gold.

Planned Start/End Date
The project was approved in December 2019. After the contractor had placed orders for certain long-lead items, site mobilisation began in July 2020. Covid-19 restrictions have delayed the forecast project completion date by three months to December 2022.
The mill was commissioned early in the third quarter of the 2022 financial year, and ramp-up is expected to be achieved early in the fourth quarter of the 2022 financial year.
Latest Developments
Impala has reported that progress on the 40 000 t a month UG2 plant expansion has been impeded by Covid-19 and delays in steel deliveries.
The tailings storage facility expansion, to cater for UG2 and future Merensky volumes, is nearing completion.
