PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Minerals developer Triton Minerals has signed two joint venture (JV) agreements with China’s Yichang Xincheng Graphite Company to develop and produce graphite-enhanced products in Mozambique.

The JV would source graphite from Triton’s Mozambique operations to develop a wide range of high-vale graphite-enhanced products, Triton said on Thursday.

“The execution of these JV arrangements with Yichang Xincheng Graphite places Triton in a truly remarkable and unique market position. Not only is Triton positioning itself to become a producer of high-quality graphite concentrate through its Mozambique product, it is now planning to be directly involved in the production of very high value enhanced graphite products that will supply the electronics, technology and energy storage sectors,” said Triton MD and CEO Brad Boyle.

Under the two agreements, the JV partners would establish enhanced product production facilities in China and Mozambique. Triton would hold a 49% interest in the China JV and a 70% interest in the Mozambique JV.

Each JV agreement contains a number of conditions, and they are not interdependent.

Triton recently raised A$12-million to rapidly progress the definitive feasibility study of its Nicada Hill graphite project, in Mozambique, where it is planning to produce some 210 000 t/y of graphite concentrate.
