Trevali’s Caribou project remains on track
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – Zinc-focused, base metals mining company Trevali Mining on Thursday said its Caribou mine and mill complex project remained on track and within budget, with commissioning still expected to start in the first half of next year.
The Caribou zinc/lead/silver mine and mill complex, located in the Bathurst Mining Camp of New Brunswick, was expected to produce about 93-million pounds of zinc, 32.5-million pounds of lead, 3.1-million pounds of copper, 730 000 oz of silver and 1 500 oz of gold a year.
Trevali noted that both surface and underground development programmes had accelerated over the summer.
In terms of the surface programmes, the mine dry facility and change house, which would be required for underground activities, had been refurbished, while site power repairs were predominantly complete.
Further, a new 3 000 t/d semiautogenous grinding mill (SAG) and associated components had been delivered to site, with its installation to be completed in early 2015.
The removal of the old SAG mill was under way.
Further, water supply to the mill had been fully restored and detailed mechanical, civil and electrical designs for the copper recovery circuit were ongoing.
Meanwhile, about three years of underground development was in place, Trevali reported.
The underground mining fleet delivery was under way. Underground ventilation fans were operating well and heating units would start operating in the next three to four weeks.
Further, dewatering was progressing well, with electrical substations now installed on Level 2 and the larger main pumps in the process of being installed.
