Integrating into the supply chain has seen Transnet Port Terminals team up with leading logistics and supply chain solutions company Barloworld Logistics in operating a cargo freight station in Culemborg, Cape Town.

With perfect positioning, the site adjacent to the City’s main highways is property of Transnet and will also serve as a value-add services hub for Cape Town customers that import and export through the terminal located in close proximity. According to TPT Head of Strategy Moshe Motlohi, “TPT’s partnership with Barloworld Logistics is aimed at creating a one-stop shop for the customer, a single point of contact for trade convenience”. Motlohi added that leveraging on unique and complementary capabilities both companies offer, will offer the customer superior service and direct contact.

With the capital injection in infrastructure, promoted by Transnet’s market demand strategy – TPT has adopted a three-pronged approach to sustainable business. Where currently a large percentage of company revenue is derived from handling commercial import and export of cargo, TPT will now consider growing and integrating into the supply chain, extending its operations globally while defending and growing existing operations within South Africa.

Capacity creation projects are currently underway across varying TPT sites in the country where the company is building demand ahead of capacity. TPT Chief Executive Karl Socikwa said “TPT realizes that any business not innovating in times this competitive where the economy offers no stable solutions – will not survive. TPT is building a legacy and ensuring the company’s future with the approaches we are taking in the next six years”. Steve Ford, Chief Executive Officer of Barloworld Logistics said, ”Partnering with TPT is an important step for both our businesses enabling us to offer our clients more holistic, integrated and competitive supply chain solutions.

This is the first of many exciting opportunities that lie ahead for the team.’’ The partnership with Barloworld Logistics will see a transfer of logistics skills to TPT staff for replicated effort that will contribute to expansion plans envisaged with the company strategy. The memorandum of understanding currently in place will pave way for existing opportunities within the supply chain.
