Tongaat Mall enquiry to continue
A commission of inquiry set up to investigate the collapse of a mall in Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal, would resume next week, the Department of Labour said on Wednesday.
The Thongathi Mall Commission of Inquiry would run for three days starting on April 2, spokesperson Page Boikanyo said.
A section of the mall, which was under construction, collapsed in November.
Two people died and 29 people were injured.
The department of labour's occupational health and safety manager Phumudzo Maphaha was appointed to preside over the commission, which would investigate events leading to the collapse of the Tongaat Mall.
He would be assisted by co-presiding officer Sandile Kubheka and Lennie Samuel, a forensic investigator and organiser.
"Once the commission has completed its evidence gathering, it is expected to prepare a report of its findings and formulate recommendations which will be presented to the labour minister and the directorate of public prosecutions for their consideration."
The hearings would be held between 9:00 and 17:00.
