The South African economy is definitely showing signs of recovery. However, there is a long way to go to truly break free from the low-growth shackles created by years of sub-optimal governance, policymaking, and service delivery; all amplified by the toxicity of State capture, the shock of Covid, and the infiltration of criminal networks into many sectors, including the police. There is, thus, a lot to do if 2026 is to go down as a genuine turning point in the country’s economic performance.
