Project Description
The project will have a nominal installed capacity of 250 MW at a normal operating head and will be located adjacent to the Port of Swansea, at the eastern gateway to the City of Swansea. The main feature will be the lagoon impounded by seawalls. The lagoon will comprise the foreshore, from the eastern side of the River Tawe to the eastern edge of the new Swansea Science and Innovation Campus. The seawall will continue to make landfall at Swansea port, close to the mouth of the River Tawe. The project will prevent the emissions of more than 216 000 t/y of carbon dioxide.

£650-million.

Duration
The power plant could be connected to the National Grid and could be ‘power ready’ in 2017.

Latest Developments
Leading global companies Costain, Atkins, and Van Oord have reached agreements to partner with Tidal Lagoon Power to design, build and deliver the project. Formal consultations on the project were expected to begin in July.
