Having a cybersecurity engineer in your team is becoming more important than ever, as we are seeing a rise in cyberattacks, data breaches, and leakage of sensitive information. Today’s world is becoming more dependent on the Internet and mobile computing for accomplishing various tasks meaning cybersecurity has become an important matter. Companies, businesses, and even governments worldwide have started to take cybersecurity seriously and are making efforts to tighten their cybersecurity.

One of the ways to tighten your cybersecurity is by hiring a cyber security engineer or a team of cyber security engineers. We are soon going to find out the importance of having a cyber security engineer in your office, but in a nutshell, a cybersecurity engineer designs and implements secure network solutions to protect against cyberattacks and cyberthreats. They continuously monitor and test the network to ensure that all the system’s defences are up and working against cyberthreats.

A cybersecurity engineer is often called a data security engineer or an IT security specialist, but whatever the name may be, the ultimate role is to strengthen the company’s defences against cyberattacks. Today, we will be discussing the importance of having a cybersecurity engineer in your team and why businesses should hire more cybersecurity engineers:

Identification of Weaknesses in the Network

A cybersecurity engineer identifies the vulnerabilities found in your company’s network infrastructure that could lead to a cyberattack or data breach. One of the first things that they will do is audit the whole network for any bugs, vulnerabilities, or security flaws, make a report of the finding, submit it to the senior management and develop an action plan to fix these security vulnerabilities and flaws to tighten the network’s security.

Management of Company's IT Infrastructure

It is the job of a cybersecurity engineer to control and manage the IT infrastructure of the company. A cybersecurity engineer is the one responsible for designing and implementing security protocols on the company’s network to ensure that it is protected against cyberthreats. This involves configuring the wireless network through 192.168.0.1, enabling firewalls, implementing authentication in various places, blocking access to harmful websites, disallowing the installation of potentially harmful applications, and regulating data usage.

Below are the important measures that need to be taken in order to protect the company’s network against outsiders’ threats and ensure that no virus, malware, or ransomware can affect the company’s data.

Protection Against Insider Threats

It is also the job of a cybersecurity engineer to monitor the network from the inside and protect the company against insider threats. If any employee is violating the company’s policy or is involved in any kind of activity that poses a threat to the company’s data then it is the job of the cybersecurity engineer to catch such employees in the act and notify the senior management about their activity. The ultimate job of a cybersecurity engineer is to protect the company’s network from any data breach or cyberattack.

Protection of Company's Data

As mentioned, it is the job of a cybersecurity engineer to protect the company’s valuable and sensitive data. As a part of their job, cybersecurity engineers actively monitor the company’s networks, the incoming and outgoing information, bandwidth usage, and wireless networks through the default gateway addresses like 192.168.1.1 to prevent unauthorized users from joining the network and accessing sensitive information.

For companies and businesses, sensitive data could mean their customer data such as addresses, phone numbers, credit card numbers, etc and for government organizations, it could mean internal communication details and secretive operations that can become a potential threat to national security. Hiring an expert cybersecurity engineer would prevent any data breach or sensitive data from falling into the wrong hands.

Assisting Senior Management

Cybersecurity engineers also assist senior management and others in the workforce with various tasks. Whether it is the job of helping new employees with login information, security clearance, and access requests, helping employees with password requests and access requests, or forming guidelines on the company’s Internet usage and network policy, cybersecurity engineers have got everything covered. Senior management can also request reports on data flow, bandwidth usage, potential threats, etc from cybersecurity engineers.

Quick Response in Time of Crisis

In case a cyberattack does happen, a cybersecurity engineer or a team of cybersecurity engineers would be able to make all the required arrangements. They will know exactly what to do and how to respond to a cyberattack. They will take quick actions to resolve the situation as soon as possible and at the same time, prevent any downtime by restoring the company’s operations through backups.

A cybersecurity engineer can be the invaluable asset that your team needs to stay protected against any cyberthreat and stay focused on business only.
