Platinum group metals miner Tharisa has announced a target of reducing its carbon emissions by 30% by 2030, from 2020 as a baseline.

The company is in the process of developing a roadmap to net carbon neutrality by 2050.

Numerous sustainability initiatives are being developed for implementation within the next 24 months.

These plans including incorporating renewable energy into the operations’ power supply and more sustainable fuel sources for its trucks, including hydrogen and/or battery electricity, as options.

The company will announce more refinements to its targets in due course.

In the meantime, Tharisa emphasises the part the company can play in producing critical metals necessary to affect the decarbonisation of the planet, and to, specifically, realise an energy transition.

“Our research team and industrial partners are focused on this, and our board supports the strategy to create a more sustainable future for Tharisa, its customers and wider stakeholders.”
