Name and Location
Thang Long thermal power plant project, Quang Ninh province, Vietnam.

Client
Thang Long Power Plant JSC.

Project Description
The project involves the construction of two 300 MW circulating fluidised boilers (CFB) for the coal-fired power plant, in the northern province of Quảng Ninh, and will cover more than 124 ha.

The boilers will burn anthracite in the cleanest and efficient conditions, helping to reach the regulatory limits for nitrogen oxide and sulphur oxides without the need for additional back-end flue gas treatment such as selective catalytic reduction and flue gas desulphurisation.

The project comprises the main plant, a coal storage facility and supporting infrastructure. Once operational, the plant is expected to contribute an estimated 4 185 GWh/y to the national grid.

Value
The project is estimated at more than $1-billion.

Duration
Construction on the power plant started in October 2014 and is expected to take 45 months to complete.

Latest Developments
Alstom has been awarded a contract to design and supply two 300 MW circulating fluidised-bed boilers for the power plant. Once these are completed, they will be the largest CFB boilers in Vietnam.

Key Contracts and Suppliers
Wuhan Kaidi Electric Power Engineering (construction).
