Company Announcement - The recently launched semi-mobile Bradford Breaker was welcomed by delegates at the Tenova TAKRAF Africa Open Day held recently at its regional Client Support Services office in Middelburg in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province. The Open Day showcased a range of advanced technologies supplied by Tenova TAKRAF Africa, highlighting its ability to provide innovative solutions from pit to port. These include the “monster machines “ for open cast mining, stockyards and ship loading/unloading, which are to be found in major operations throughout the globe,  crushing and screening systems, the ingenious Tenova TAKRAF Africa developed modular overland conveyor, and the Dust Solutions Incorporated (DSI) and Magaldi Superbelt® technology, both newly acquired distributorships.

Bradford Breakers, sold under license from Terrasource Global in the USA, have been extensively applied on South African coal mines since being introduced onto the local market in the 1980s, proving highly effective in simultaneously sizing and cleaning raw coal. Developed originally for the American market and its softer coal, Tenova TAKRAF Africa has drawn on its wealth of experience in the local industry to modify and enhance the Bradford Breaker to make it the suitable choice for the difficult coal of the South African market.

Particularly suitable for the junior and small miners who are increasingly exploiting the small coal resources that remain, the most recent development, the semi mobile Bradford Breaker, offfers the benefits of the breaker in a more compact machine mounted on a skid. This allows for ease of transport to move the Bradford Breaker as mining progresses to another block or resource, the ability to position the Bradford Breaker as close as possible to mining operations, therefore reducing conveying costs, and reduced civil works as the Bradford Breaker can be placed directly into position on the skid.

Increasing pressure and tightening legislation to reduce environmental impact has seen ongoing strong demand for Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s air pollution control technology. The comprehensive selection, from dynamic scrubbers to Dry and Semi-Dry DeSOX Systems, cleans the air over the entire process chain. A recent addition is the world-renowned range of DSI dust suppression systems, which include the DSI dry fog system and DustTamer™ Wind Fence and Wind Screen Systems. The DSI dry fog systems, based on the principle that ultra-fine water droplets will attach to like-sized airborne dust particles and result in the slightly wetted dust particles becoming heavy enough to be removed, significantly reduce fugitive dust from a variety of material handling points. The DustTamer™ Wind Fence and Wind Screen Systems lower wind velocities downwind of a screen's location, reducing the amount of airborne particulate that accumulates from material handling operations.

A newly acquired license for handling bottom ash is the Magaldi Superbelt® technology, enhancing Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s state-of-the-art product offering for ash handling and storage systems. Withstanding higher temperatures than any other technologies, this environmentally friendly technology offers low noise levels and power usage, enclosed conveying and conveying up to 35º inclination.
Based on an ingenious design, the Tenova TAKRAF Africa modular overland conveyor is a breakthrough in conveying, consisting of concrete modules precast at the project site and fitted with idler frames and brackets. These are easily and quickly placed into position after the conveyor line has been surveyed, with only a prepared terrace required and no civil footings. The system thus maximises investment as it is relocatable and reusable, responsible and safe to use, reducing site work by as much as 80 %, and cost-effective, based on mass produced, standardised modules.

“The positive response we received from our customers at the Open Day in Middelburg underlines the importance the industry places on Tenova TAKRAF Africa’s innovative technology offering, as well as our commitment to staying close to our customer, “ says Riccardo Tonini, Managing Director, Tenova TAKRAF Africa. “Our network of offices, which cover our headquarters in Spartan, Gauteng, and regional offices in the Norhern Cape and Mpumalanga, ensure we provide a comprehensive service from equipment supply to aftemarket support, based on an in depth understanding of the specific requirements of the local mining operations.”
Tenova TAKRAF Africa and Tenova Delkor Sub-Saharan Africa haqve moved to new offices in Spartan, Gauteng as of the end of January 2016. Located at 96 Loper Street, Aeroport, Spartan, Kempton Park, the building provides a dedicated office space, as well as sufficient space for the spares stores and test work laboratory, thus integrating the entire team under one roof. Telephone and email contact details remain the same.

The stores facility holds spares for all Tenova TAKRAF Africa equipment and capital projects. It is equipped with a computerised inventory system, remote camera monitoring of all stores and a 10 t overhead crane with a 29 m span to facilitate efficient turn-around of spares requirements. Fully equipped with sample preparation and mineral processing equipment, the laboratory provides a convenient facility for the sizing of Bradford Breakers and other comminution test work, saving on the expense of on site test work and reducing turnaround time. Through a partnership with Greentechnical, the laboratory also provides material flow laboratory test work to determine the flow of solid material through chutes, and into storage vessels - information required to accurately determine equipment design parameters. Tenova Delkor’s solid/liquid separation test work includes sedimentation, filtration and clarification test work for equipment sizing such as Thickeners, Horizontal Belt Filters, Filter Presses, Pinned Bed Clarifiers and Flotation Cells. The Tenova Delkor laboratory also has testing facilities to determine the  rheological behaviour of various slurry materials and is equipped for static and dynamic sedimentation testing, with capabilities to perform on-site test work globally.

Tenova TAKRAF is a key supplier of equipment and systems for open pit mining and materials handling, having provided hundreds of complete systems, as well as individual machines to clients all over the world in all climatic conditions. Globally sourced air pollution control, specialised handling equipment, and technology for the cement and fly ash industries ensure selection of optimal processing options.
