PERTH (miningweekly.com) – The carbon-in-leach (CIL) process plant at the Tembang gold-silver project, in Indonesia, has achieved practical completion some eight weeks ahead of schedule.

ASX-listed Sumatra Copper & Gold on Monday reported that blasting had also started at the underground and openpit mines that were currently under development, following the receipt of the final explosive permits.

As a result, Sumatra had brought forward the timing of the first gold pour to late September.

“The construction and operations teams have been outstanding in successfully delivering the Tembang project to this point, ahead of schedule with a good safety performance,” said MD David Fowler.

“The expected first gold pour in September, eight weeks ahead of schedule, will herald a new era for our company and provide a significant boost to the local economy.”

Tembang was expected to produce about 33 000 oz/y of gold and 345 000 oz/y of silver, at a cash operating cost of $470/oz, once in full operation.
