Tarquinia solar plant, Italy

Name of the Project
Tarquinia solar plant.
Location
Tarquinia, in the province of Viterbo, in Latium, Italy.
Project Owner/s
Enel Green Power.
Project Description
The project will be the biggest solar plant in Italy, as well as the country’s biggest agrivoltaic plant, fully integrated with the agriculture sector in the area.
The plant will have a capacity of 170 MW and, once fully operational, is expected to generate an average of about 280 GWh/y. The project will also prevent the emission of about 130 000 t/y of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere.
The plant will use bifacial photovoltaic modules, which allow for solar energy to be absorbed on the front and rear surfaces, and will be mounted on “trackers”.
This agrivoltaic solar farm will be built in an area owned by a local company that will be working with Enel Green Power on integrating agricultural activities at the plant. Specifically, fodder and borage will be grown in vacant areas between the rows of solar panels and in the buffer zones of overhead power lines, while olive trees will be planted around the perimeter.
