Project Description
The Taronga tin project is considered a world-class tin project. It is ranked as the eleventh-largest undeveloped hard rock tin project worldwide, with a historic resource estimate of 46.7-million tons containing 68 000 t of tin.

The project also contains significant copper and silver resources, as well as other minerals of possible by-product potential including tungsten, molybdenum, bismuth and indium. Work has started to determine the potential of the by-product credits.

Value
A preliminary economic assessment (PEA) on the project, based on parameters reported in a prefeasibility study (PFS) completed by Newmont between 1978 and 1983, has concluded that the tin-only processing plant at Taronga will have a capital cost of $95-million based on a 3.7-million-ton-a-year run-of-mine operation incorporating heavy-medium separation.

Latest Developments
Following the positive results of the PEA the AusNiCo board has approved the immediate start of an updated PFS for the Taronga project.
