Tarcoola gold project, Australia
Name and Location
Tarcoola gold project, Australia.
Client
WPG Resources.
Project Description
The Tarcoola project has a total mineral resource of 973 000 t grading 3.12 g/t of gold, and a reserve of 900 000 t at 2.6 g/t of gold.
The results of a feasibility study on the development of the Tarcoola gold project, in South Australia, has indicated that the project is technically feasible and economically viable at current gold prices as a small to medium-sized openpit gold mine, with heap-leach treatment of the ore for gold recovery, supported by the necessary on- and off-site services and infrastructure.
The proposed openpit will be mined using conventional mining equipment, with heap-leach treatment and processing to recover gold.
Pit design and scheduling, which were undertaken in accordance with appropriate geotechnical parameters, have indicated that about 900 000 t of probable ore reserve can be economically mined from a single, large and a smaller satellite openpit at a strip ratio of about 7.6:1 waste to ore, to a final pit depth of 115 m.
The feasibility study envisages a mining rate of 350 000 t/y and a mine life of about three years.
Net Present Value/Internal Rate of Return
The project has an ungeared net present value, at a 7.5% discount rate, of $12-million.
Value
The project is estimated at $16.72-million.
Duration
Start of construction and production are expected to start in 2016.
