Project Description
The project involves the construction of the first hydropower station on the Jinsha river – part of the upper reaches of the Yangtze river – that will supply electricity to Tibet’s eastern regions.

A 112-m-high dam will be built to form a reservoir that can store about 674-million cubic metres of water.

Suwalong will have a design capacity of 1.2 GW and will be able to generate about 5 400 GWh/y.

The project is expected to cost $2.77-billion.

Duration
Construction of the dam is expected to start next year, with the first of its four generating units expected to start in 2021.
