Marulo Comercio, an Imperial Logistics company operating in Mozambique, has been appointed as the exclusive distributor of popular Portuguese beer brand Super Bock - part of the Unicer stable of well known beverages and beers. Marulo has partnered with the Portugal-based brewer, to distribute their product range across the Mozambique market. The contract also includes the rights to the exclusive distribution in Mozambique of the organisation’s Agua das Pedras and Caramulo mineral water as well as Carlsberg beer.

Marulo Managing Director Milton Vellios explains that their infrastructure enables national distribution throughout the country, with additional depots being planned to increase the current warehouse footprint. “Partnering with the brewer of Portugal’s most popular beer – and the brand that has achieved cult status among English football fans – is an exciting opportunity for us,” he states. Established in 1927, Unicer is based in Leça do Balio, just outside the city of Porto, Portugal. The popularity of its well-known beer brand Super Bock, has inspired football chants throughout the globe, whilst the company’s Pedras Salgadas mineral water has a history that goes back to Roman times, when the springs after which the naturally carbonated water is named, were first discovered. Vellios explains that the water takes ten years to cross the different layers of granite that filter it and enrich it with mineral salts, endowing it with the properties that have made it the market leader in Portugal's sparkling waters industry.

Whilst Super Bock beer and Unicer’s famous naturally carbonated water enjoy world renown, Vellios stresses that local expertise will be the key to success in the Mozambican market. “An outstanding product is a great start, but in addition, it is important to understand the legislation, ordinances, political environment, networks and infrastructure in Mozambique. Marulo Comercio netted this distributor contract based on its ability to meet all of these requirements, and its reputation as a market leader in Mozambique – built up over almost two decades.” With various warehouse and distribution facilities in Mozambique, complimented by a sales team that operates across Mozambique, Marulo serves a diverse range of clients in the wholesale, retail and hospitality sectors.

Marulo Comercio is part of CIC Holdings, a wholly owned Imperial Logistics operating company. The CIC Group operates within the fast moving consumer goods industry in seven African countries, offering an end-to-end route to market solution for their blue chip customer base, including functions such as transportation, warehousing, sales, distribution, merchandising, debtors’ administration, as well as staffing and security solutions.
