Sukari Q4 production up 7%, yearly production rises 36%
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – LSE- and TSX-listed Centamin on Monday announced a 7% year-on-year and an 8% quarter-on-quarter increase in production from its Sukari gold mine, in Egypt, for the three months ended December 31 to 91 546 oz.
This brought the mine’s total production for the full 2013 to 356 943 oz – a 36% increase on the prior year’s production and above guidance of 320 000 oz.
During the quarter, openpit total material movement decreased by 8% quarter-on-quarter to 9.64-million tonnes, while openpit ore production also declined by 7% to 3.16-million tonnes.
The run-of-mine ore stockpile balance increased by 219 000 t to 1.76-million tonnes at the end of the three-month period and the underground mine delivered 174 000 t of ore, up 15% quarter-on-quarter.
Meanwhile, quarterly throughput at the Sukari process plant amounted to 1.4-million tonnes, a 12% increase on the prior corresponding period and a 4% increase on the throughput of the third quarter of 2013, exceeding the nameplate annualised rate of five-million tonnes for the fourth successive quarter with continued high levels of productivity and availability.
"Consistently high levels of productivity have been achieved at Sukari throughout 2013, with minimal impact from unplanned stoppages or the start of Stage 4 commissioning activities,” Centamin chairperson Josef El-Raghy commented.
He added that Centamin looked forward to a further successive year of growth in 2014 as the company continued ramp-up towards its 450 000 oz/y to 500 000 oz/y long-term target.
“Despite the weak gold price environment, we again exit the year with a robust financial and operating base on which to continue delivering our growth strategy,” he commented.
