JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – ASX-listed Straits Resources is examining various start-up scenarios for its Mt Muro operation, in Indonesia, following a clash between police and illegal miners on June 29, which left some mine infrastructure damaged.

Straits executive chairperson Andre Labuschagne said the company was aiming to finalise a restart plan in the coming week.

He pointed out that the security situation had returned to normal and that the damage had been assessed. The key task at hand would now be to carry out the necessary repairs.

“The major damage sustained was to several key buildings in the camp and the mining office and 14 light vehicles are no longer serviceable. Importantly, all major mining equipment is intact. Despite these inconveniences, the site is quickly returning to normal,” Labuschagne stated.

Meanwhile, owing to the continued suspension of the operations, Straits had brought forward the planned maintenance work on the mine’s mill and coal-fired power station.
