PERTH (miningweekly.com) – Copper miner Straits has reported a 20 900 t increase in contained copper at its deposits in New South Wales, after an initial mineral reserve was declared at the Avoca Tank, North East and Larsens deposits, at the Tritton operation.

The updated ore reserves for these deposits were estimated at 1.5-million tonnes, grading 2% copper, to deliver a combined resource of about 30 300 t of contained copper metal.

Straits executive chair Andre Labuschagne said on Thursday that the updated mineral resource and ore reserve statements would greatly assist in the company’s long-term planning for the Tritton operation.

Mining was currently being conducted from the main Tritton mine and the smaller North East-Larsens mine mine, and processed at the Tritton plant, which has the capacity to produce about 25 000 t/y of copper in concentrate.

During the three months to December, the Tritton mine delivered 6 306 t of copper production.
