Financial services firm Standard Bank is, this week, hosting a virtual event in which its employees seek to find innovative solutions to consumer problems using technology, with strategies that build on Standard Bank’s digital strategies and value drivers.

The hackathon aims to help Standard Bank understand its clients as deeply as possible and then enable the human skills and digital capabilities to help meet customer needs.

“In a world where competitive lines are constantly redrawn, constant innovation and reinvention is imperative to succeed. Standard Bank believes collaboration is crucial in solving the complex challenges brought to us by our clients.

"By making the call-to-action to our software developers, engineers and product owners to collaborate, we aim to give ourselves the agility needed to create real impact for consumers and drive change,” says Standard Bank group technology and operations head Jörg Fischer.

All concepts must fulfil four requirements – all solutions must use a cloud platform and modern cloud technology; all solutions must use one of Standard Bank's contracted hyperscalers to connect to clients to leverage customer insights and provide data solutions in real-time to showcase the team’s curiosity, boldness and knowledge; solutions must encompass the Standard Bank group strategic value drivers, which support its purpose of driving growth in Africa; and the solutions and outcomes must also reduce costs, improve efficiency and/or improve the client experience.

The winners of the hackathon will be announced on October 21.
