SPAR is taking bold steps by moving towards Packaging by Nature. This is part of a wider shift from a linear to circular economy, which emphasises the importance of recycling and the reduction of waste.
Paul Mindry, the SPAR Group House Brands Manager, stated, “we are incredibly excited about our new packaging of the SPAR 2L Full Cream and Low-Fat Extended Shelf Life Fresh Milk as it is more sustainable and kinder to the environment, allowing consumers to make environmentally responsible choices every time they shop”.
The improved carton is 100% recyclable and made from 87% renewable resources. The entire carton closure, including the cap, is made from plant-based material, and the board used to make the cartons, comes from responsibly managed forests that are FSC certified. The unbleached board with naturally brown fibres offers greater strength, resulting in a stronger yet lighter carton.
SPAR wanted to ensure that this innovation is:
- RECYCLABLE - It must help convert waste into reusable material
- RENEWABLE - It must come from a resource that can be replaced naturally and not depleted when used
- SUSTAINABLE - It must be able to meet present day needs without negatively impacting the future
Now they’re appealing to you, their shoppers, to join them. They’ve included recycling information on the cartons to help you in your commitment to making a positive change in our South Africa.
Together, we can reduce our impact on the environment.
Here’s to a greener tomorrow, with SPAR.
