Retailer the Spar Group has announced that it will introduce a voluntary severance programme (VSP) as part of a broader initiative to enhance operational efficiency and competitiveness, assuring that this process will not affect the group’s retailers or the services provided to the retail network.

The programme is part of Spar’s continuous efforts to align its cost base with current trading conditions and to ensure the organisation is properly structured to support its operational priorities.

CEO Reeza Isaacs says the decision reflects a disciplined approach to strengthening the business.

“These are considered and necessary steps to ensure Spar remains a strong and competitive business. We are approaching this process in a responsible and respectful manner, while ensuring that we are well-positioned to invest in the areas that will drive future growth.”

The group notes that the voluntary nature of the programme is aimed at giving employees flexibility and choice, while allowing the group to make necessary adjustments to its operating structure. The VSP offer will be available to employees until the end of April.
