Given the difficulties and challenges facing the energy generation model in South Africa, there is much scope for foreign direct investment into the country’s energy sector.

This is one of the ideas unpacked by various panelists at an energy sector-focused discussion held at the South African–French Business Forum, in Johannesburg, on Thursday.

South Africa is said to be at the very early stages of an energy mix transition.

Independent power producer projects and renewable energy sources are expected to present significant investment opportunities.
