Song'oro hydroelectric power plant, Nyanza, Kenya.

Project Description
The project will be an extension of the Sondi-Miriu scheme and will involve the construction of a 20-MW hydropower plant.

The project will recycle the water discharged from the Sondu-Miriu hydropower plant.

The plant will use the full discharge of 39,9 m3/s of water from Sondu-Miriu, dropping from a height of 62,2 m.

The two plants will be interconnected to allow power generated at Song'oro to be transported to Sondo-Miriu before being released to the national grid.

Value
The project is estimated at $65-million. The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is financing more than half of the project, through a 30-year loan, while Kengen will pay the balance.

Duration
Construction is to start in November and will take three years to complete.

Kenya Electricity Generating Company (KenGen).

Sinohydro Corporation of China has won the bid to construct the new hydropower plant.
Only two countries presented bids for the project, namely China (Sinohydro Corporation), and Iran (Farab).
