Software & The Treadmill Of Continuous Improvement
This article has been supplied.
In the world of software development, continuous research, development and product upgrades are the name of the game. As the world continues to digitise, and Industry 4.0 drives rapid development, software providers are hard pressed to keep pace and ensure their solutions remain relevant, reliable and accurate.
In a highly competitive market, the key to software success is finding innovative ways to manage the continuous improvement process. According to Adam Barrie-Smith, Chief Technology Officer at South Africa Qlik Master Reseller (SAQMR), an EOH Company, Qlik is delivering on its new approach to continuously improving software.
“As customers upgraded their Qlik Sense to the September 2018 release, the feedback confirmed that the upgrade was highly beneficial but simple to manage,” confirms Barrie-Smith. “With sensible backups and user-friendly release notes, which provide expert insights into Qlik Sense, Qlik NPrinting and the Qlik Web Connectors.”
The Qlik web connectors’ upgrade was of particular importance, due to the significant changes implemented in Twitter and Facebook Insights. There are a number of new features with Qlik NPrinting but the most significant is the ability to import users, and password protection functionality for PDF reports.
In evaluating the efficacy of the upgrade, Barrie-Smith considered his personal Qlik Sense application, and the benefits he experienced. “The easiest way to see feature improvements is to watch the video. My favourite is a trivial one; my notebook has an identity crisis thinking it is a touch-screen. It is not and so the new feature which allows you to turn off touch-screen functionality is very useful for me.
On my Qlik Sense site I also used the opportunity to move from Token to the Professional/Analyzer User model. This is easy to do, and the only administration involved was to reallocate user licenses. I also installed the Qlik Web Connectors which come free with the new Professional/Analyzer User model.”
Barrie-Smith confirms that the continued improvements of the Insight Advisor show how Qlik applies Artificial Intelligence to amplify human intelligence. “The Qlik Sense native map improves again along with various additional features to delight users,” he concludes. “September 2018 is another great release from Qlik bringing with it a strengthening of multi-cloud and an early adoption programmes for the Qlik Associative Big Data Index. I am looking forward to the November 2018 release.”
